11 Steps to Selling a Gardener's House

1. Pray!

2. Become convinced your house will not sell after all

3. Daydream up a plan to revamp your current gardens (since you'll need a new project sans the moving!)

4. Blog about said plan. Double points if you include Pinterest garden photos.

5. Find hidden tips in the comments about baking bread before showings and running a slideshow of the garden in full bloom during showings

6. Fiercely enact all tips in #5 for the next unsuspecting people who come to look at your house. (If you find you can't do this fiercely, ferociously is also acceptable)

7. Accept the offer they immediately make after being positively overwhelmed by your home

8. Be incredibly thankful that you dug up and stored most of your bulbs in the fall as well as a few takealong plants.

9. Realize that you now have to start packing and have no place to go.

10. Go to get boxes that your in-laws conveniently left for you in their garage. If you can manage to somehow misidentify their house and try on two separate occasions to break into a stranger's house - before you realize that the reason the key isn't working is because it's the wrong house! - you are sillier than me.

11. Keep on praying, since nothing is for sure until closing.

We're not sure yet what house we'll end up in, but we trust that God is good and will provide. It's exciting and scary and then exciting again, so we are thankful that while our emotions are flip-flopping all over the place, we have a steadfast Father. :)

From one man He made every nation of men,
that they should inhabit the whole earth;
And He determined the time set for them,
and the exact places where they should live. (Acts 17:26)

  1. I love, LOVE, this post. I claimed that exact verse of scripture when we were moving, too.

When we first bought our new home, I was coming home after dark with the kids in the car. We live on West xxx (unnamed) Street. But there is an East xxx (unnamed) Street. I turned onto the East one and pulled into the drive way. The kids were howling with laughter. "MOM, This is NOT our house." They still laugh at me about that one.

  3. Sold!!! What a glorious sign! I know someone that's been waiting two years for her house to sell! (And it's under priced!) You surely did something right! On to another garden - how exciting!!! Don't forget to take your shovel and check out the soil while house hunting! ;) And yes, I've tried to open the wrong house before, and I try to get in the wrong car on a regular basis!

  5. Ah, so happy for you, Hanni! That is great news! I know what you mean about not getting too excited until it's all done, but that's certainly a huge step in the right direction. Have fun house-shopping (or deciding, if you already have some houses in mind). Cheers!

  8. I love that verse. With us, the Lord directed us to the land that He had planned for us first. We have it now, http://www.gardeningtipsandpics.com/ and are glad we didn't have to move out of our place before getting the building project started.
Now we wait for Him to send a buyer.

How did you list your home? So far we have just used Kijiji and have had good response because of the garden pics, but now that we have a travel trailer on the land we are ready to get serious about selling.

  9. Congrats, Hanni, on selling your lovely home and best wishes for finding one even more wonderful, where you can build another truly wonderful garden! I hooted with laughter over your description of searching for a way into the WRONG house for boxes!

  11. I’m sure that you can find a suitable home where you can create a beautiful garden again, Hanni. But I must say that your tips are helpful and playful at the same time! Many would certainly follow these tips to make sure that their gardener’s home will sell on the market. Moreover, I think a house with a beautiful garden and lawn has an edge on the buyers. Gardens and landscapes add beauty and charm to a property and increase the value of a home.

  12. A house with blooming flowers and a lush lawn surrounding the yard sells more quickly than a house with just a garage. The smell of fresh flowers and trees can attract people a lot. Most often, people want to live in house where they can spend their spare time cultivating plants and enjoying the refreshing atmosphere of a garden.
