Since spring is taking her sweet time rolling in, enjoy a startling visit through my yard's Ugly Places. Er....promising areas of possibility.
Gasp and avert your eyes as needed. An occasional boo may also be appropriate.
The pile of filth visible here is next year's project. This year I'm focused on the veg garden; the year before that I got the cottage garden started.
I'm not yet sure what the Rubbish Heap Garden will turn into, but I have a good solid year before I have to worry about that.
Here is the Patch of Insanity. Whoever poured the concrete must have been insane to leave a 4 inch strip between the walkway and the gararge...which is also covered by the house's overhang so it gets no rain.
I don't let small children back here for fear that they won't come back out.
The neighbor's probably don't appreciate my "one-garden-at-a-time" approach, which led to this neglected weed border to encroach on 3 feet high last summer.
If that thing was able to speak, I can assure you I do NOT want to hear what it has to say. I have visions of attacking it with a hoe, but I round the corner and promptly forget about it...until the next time when I pass by and it sneers at me again.
This is the worst of all and rouses my heart to an odd mixture of revolt and pity.
Those junipers will be going the way of the dodo this year, and I'm stuffing in black-eyed susan starts under the window. I do need something vertical where the so-called junipers are, though.
I'm feeling compassionate, so instead of leaving this post as a tearjerker, here's whats blooming in my garden today. Even if the rest of the garden is a mudhole, I do love me some creeping phlox. :)
Happy weekend, all!
