The kitchen has been getting a workout in the past few weeks,
and the computer has been getting a rest. :)
Corn and peaches hanging out on the counter...waiting for the freezer.
Learn how to can "something" was on my list of things to do this summer. I'd never canned a blessed thing before, but have wanted to try it for some time. We did brandied cherries a few weeks back and I loved it!
Since my tomato harvest was mostly deered, I bought loads more and will be having some hard core quality time in the kitchen over the next couple of days with these babies.
Speaking of which, do you have a great recipe for canning salsa?
I've only made salsa fresh before, so I'm a little overwhelmed with the results I got from googling it. :)

I didn't can much until last year, was always a little afraid of it myself. Those brandied cherries sounds fabulous, and the peaches look wonderful! We're making roasted tomatillo salsa this next week. I've frozen tomato based salsas, but I've never canned a pure tomato salsa (tomatoes and canning always make me nervous).
ReplyDeletemy garden is too small and we eat it as we harvest so I have never canned...but you go girl!!!
ReplyDeleteCheck out Sara Royer's blog. She makes the best salsa and just canned earlier this week! http://homesweetglutenfreehome.blogspot.com -Janelle
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness. That is a lot of peaches! I'm assuming you didn't grow those in Michigan?! Can't wait to hear how all the canned goods turned out. Keep us posted!
ReplyDeleteWow that is an impressive harvest! You have a lot of work ahead of you but it will all be worth it. Gosh, did you pit all those cherries? They look delicious!
ReplyDeleteI have a yummy salsa recipe, I will email it to you :) :)
ReplyDeleteI've never canned anything either, and our garden is small so all we do is freeze a few things here and there. but do share your tips. Maybe one day when I have a family and more fruits & veggies it's something I'll want to try. :)
ReplyDeleteMy mouth is watering at the sight of those peaches and corn. We were just up in WI visiting my folks and we had fresh sweet corn out of their garden. Nothin' like it :-) And when we were in Georgia last month, we got some peaches that were so yummy!! Have fun! I think I am the only one in my family who did not get the canning gene. I am clueless.
ReplyDeleteHanni! I haven't been to visit you for too long and I apologise for that. Your brandied cherries look yummy. You are certainly keeping busy.
ReplyDeleteI have been busy canning, too. Our garden was not good, but I still get things from the local farmers market. I think it's becoming a bit addicting to have a pantry with fresh canned goods! Good for you for giving it a go. Your brandied cherries look scrumptious!
ReplyDeletePreserving stuff is FUN! I had my first go at making jam this year and I enjoyed both the process and the result. One of my projects for the weekend is to pick the over-ripe peas and freeze them so they can be used as pulses in winter stews... Waste not, want not!
ReplyDelete1st year canning here too. DH loves the Ball Blue Book "Spicy Tomato Salsa". He says it's a winner.
ReplyDeleteGood heavens, you could start a fruit and veg store with all that!
