Harvest Monday: July 25

The following points have contributed to my lack of effective gardening this week:

I mentally sing "So long, Farewell, Auf Weidersehen, Goodnight!" every time I see this picture

1. Poison ivy attack
(Thank you, Brave Husband, for weeding that nefarious corner where I was sure I saw a mutant spider. My spider-eyes obviously are not in sync with spotting poisonous plants)

2. Temps over 100 with 200% humidity
(The reader may at this point be indicating the humidity reading is inaccurate, but I am willfully choosing to disregard reason here. Going outside was equivalent to smothering myself.)

3. Non-tornadoes
(Judging from what ended up in our yard, I am sure several used diapers mysteriously appeared in someone's else's yard. Extending my deepest apologies!)

Once I was able to get outside and check on things, I was appalled at what I found:

Eeek. The deer and the slugs and who knows what else have been having a hey day out there! There's a strong possibility they harvested more than I did this week...at least somebody enjoyed it. I still did get a fair amount of cukes & zukes though.

What did your garden give you this week?

  1. I absolutely LOVE your vegetable flower "sculpture"! So artistic. Concerning your reasons for NOT gardening this week... I have the opposite problem. It takes a lot to keep me out of the garden. I'm out there at the slightest excuse.

  2. I know this isn't funny, but I had to laugh. I appreciate your sense of humor on this tragic garden tour :) But what you did harvest looks marvelous!

  3. Hi, I sympathize with the weather problem. It is so hot here that I am even having trouble working inside in the air-conditioning. The humidity is soooo bad all over. I know that is what keeps me out of the garden!
Your veggie flower is so cute and I laughed over the Sound of Music family!

  4. Ugh! Pests and critters can be so annoying. I do love your "beanflower" - we need our senses of humor in our gardens, don't we? ;-)

  5. @Allison: Bahaha! No, it really IS funny! :) If it wasn't, I'd be one miserable gardener.

  6. If we didn't laugh about it.... what would we do??? Great post, great pics!

  7. What a pretty flower! And your poor garden! Ha ha, used diapers in someones yard. Poor people! I agree with you on the humidity, when I do get out there, my eyes burn from the sweat that immediately begins running into my eyes! It's disgusting!

  8. Love veggie art, keep it coming. So sorry to read about deer/slug damage. I hate hate hate slugs, they are so prolific here in NW. Hope you win the fight against critters :)

  10. Something got in my vegetable garden as well...I think it was a rabbit. The good thing is that nothing died. I like your first photo and excerpt from 'The Sound of Music'...cute! Great harvest despite the heat!

  11. Love your harvest flower.
Sorry about the poison ivy attack and sweltering heat, it's really bad when humidity is high.

  12. You are so creative! Love your flower at the end. And now I'll be singing that song all night! Well, you had 3 excuses, so you are forgiven any plant problems that arose during those mini-crises! Hope your poison ivy goes away soon. One tip: scratching in the shower does NOT wash the poison away. It still spreads. Found that out the hard way.

  13. OK, so the good news is you have some wonderful Cucumbers! That's more than I can say! And hopefully the humidity has lifted? Sorry about the damage and the poison ivy, though. Take care!

  15. I burst out laughing when I read the caption for your cukes. That was so funny. That your garden got eaten by others than you is not.

I am sorry about the poison ivy. I hope you are feeling less itchy now.

  16. I love your flower, but sorry about the poison ivy and the nasty weather and the animal depredation. It's been a hard week.
