Bloom Day: April 2011

It was such a blustery day yesterday that I missed Garden Blogger's Bloom Day! Out here in the quasi-sticks, the wind kept blowing out our Internet connection.

So I'm a day late and (a dollar short is debatable) but there are blooms to share this month. So I'll round out the list at #155, and share what's been giving me joy as I peek out the window.

I'm loving that teensy-tiny slip of anemone. (At least that's what I've been calling it!) It was a passalong from my mom - I only have a bitty slip of it. I forget about it every year.

And the hyacinth! Sweet-scent from heaven! I can't believe that I forgot to plant more hyacinth last fall. I only have a few blooming, but their fragrance is enough to make the breeze in the whole yard smell beautiful.

Remember the Doomed Daffodils? Lazy things...they crawled out of their winter nap nearly 3 weeks behind the rest of the daffodils. I'm not sure if it's because they are a later daffodil, or because they were planted under an avalanche of snow that took longer to melt. At any rate, I'm very pleased to see the little buds showing.

Pretty soon they will be showing off like the rest of the scattered daffs in the garden!

What's blooming in your neck of the woods? Wait...I forgot...there are 155 entries already...

Maybe you'll be #156???

  1. Actually, you're 156 and I'm 157. The Blossoms that got left off in yesterday's Seedscatterer Bloom Day post (#69) clamored to be included, so I put them on Dotty Plants and tacked it on.

    Your Daffodils are beautiful. By all means plant lots of hyacinths this fall and stick one each in 2 or 3 mugs of pebbles to bloom indoors while snow is on the ground.

  5. Blue is my favorite color in the garden and I love the photos of the anemone and hyacinth. Your daffodils are pretty too! My bulbs are just about finished here and I'm eagerly waiting for the roses to bloom!

  7. @Nell: Thanks for the correction...number 1-5-6 I'll claim. I've never tried forcing hyacinth; I'll give it a shot next winter!

    @Donna: Oh, I do hope they will colonize. I've been drooling over online photos of anemones recently.

    @Muhammad: Thank you! It's worth imagining!

  8. @Bumble: You are very welcome. I'm glad they decided to show up, too.

    @Dorothy: Something about blue in the garden just takes my breath. Roses do too, but I'm not sure about blue roses. :)

    @Holley: Yee-haw! Me too!

  9. I love the blues. Pretty photos you took too. If I waited for two days late, I would have had daffodils to show instead of a tight bud, plus like you, the hyacinths opened.
