I'm pretty sure I have more hobbies than time, but doing them cheaply is the theme that ties them all together.
If I can't be out in the garden, I'm usually reading or redecorating. I dearly love to upcycle things that are dug out of a thrift store, just plain ugly, or would have otherwise been thrown away.
I did this project last summer thanks to an article on Design*Sponge. (where I can spend wayyy too time admiring the design before & afters!) If your toilet paper roll cache is overflowing, and you have made seed starter pots out the wa-zoo, never fear! I have the perfect use for all those extra rolls.
How to Make the Toilet Paper Roll Wall Sculpture:
1. Cut the TP roll into 5 more-or-less equal sections. They will be slightly squished
2. Arrange and re-arrange the sections until you have a design you love
3. Glue the sections together. I used bobby pins to help hold the pieces tightly together (because bobby pins multiply at our house), but clothespins or even paper clips would also work well
4. Spray paint, if desired
I have this hanging on a wall in our home..I've mentioned my "TP roll art" to a couple of friends before, and not one of them had any idea what I was talking about. "That artwork is made out of TOILET PAPER rolls?" is usually the common response. Hee hee, yup sure is!

I love it and wow so creative. It looks good and you'd never know what it is. I was saving them for something I was sure and then tossed them all out. I'll have to create me some art. Thanks for the idea.
ReplyDeleteVery creative, I like that :)
ReplyDeleteThat looks really cool! Could you spray paint it?
ReplyDeleteI liked your wall art. Spraying them a cool color is a good idea, it takes away the materiality, making it less obvious of the origin.
ReplyDelete@Becca - haha, now you have an excuse to start saving them again!
ReplyDelete@Chef - thanks!
@Holly - yes, you sure can. Mine is spraypainted a metallic silver.
@GWGT - it really does. I've been toying with the idea of doing another and painting it black.
Of course you made something BEAUTIFUL out of stuff we wipe our butts with. =) You amazing me, Hanni!
ReplyDeleteI love this! It doesn't even look like toilet paper!! It looks like a metal ornament! Great job! :)
ReplyDeleteI have been saving up my toilet paper rolls for the last month hoping to do something like this for our guest bedroom! Glad to see it works so well! Always fun to see your creativity :-)
